A folded booklet is not printed in reading order. Fold a stack of sheets in half and the outermost sheet carries the first and last pages together, the next one carries the second and second-to-last, and so on inwards — which is why printing pages 1, 2, 3, 4 and folding them gives you nonsense. This tool computes that imposition for you: pages are paired and placed two-up in saddle-stitch order, ready to print, fold and staple through the spine.

Print it double-sided with the flip on the short edge. That is the setting that gets the backs the right way up, and it is the single most common reason a correctly imposed booklet still comes out wrong. There is a right-to-left binding option for languages that open the other way.

  2. Choose the sheet size, or let it pair two pages side by side automatically.
  3. Set right-to-left binding if that is your reading direction.
  4. Download, print double-sided flipping on the short edge, fold and staple.

Frequently asked questions

Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The file is opened by JavaScript and WebAssembly running inside your own browser tab. It is never uploaded, there is no server-side processing and nothing is stored — closing the tab discards everything.
The backs come out upside down.
Your printer is flipping on the long edge. Change it to short edge in the print dialog. The imposition itself is fine — this is the setting that trips up almost everyone the first time.
Does the page count have to be a multiple of four?
A folded booklet always makes sheets of four pages, so blanks are added at the end to round it out. If you would rather choose where the blanks fall, insert them yourself first with Insert blank pages.
Why are the pages in a strange order in the PDF?
That is the point — the order is for the printer, not the reader. Sheet one holds the last page and the first page next to each other because that is what they become when the stack is folded.
Is this the same as N-up?
No. N-up puts pages on a sheet in reading order to save paper. Booklet reorders them for folding. Printing an N-up and folding it gives you a booklet whose pages are in the wrong sequence.
