Redacting by hand means finding every occurrence yourself, and the one you miss is the one that matters. This tool takes the words, phrases or patterns you give it — with presets for emails, card numbers and IBANs — and removes every match across the whole document, including matches hiding in the title, the keywords and the bookmarks where nobody thinks to look.
There are two modes and the difference is worth understanding. The text-preserving mode removes only the matched words from the file, so the rest of the page stays real, searchable, selectable text with its links intact. Turn it off and pages containing a match are flattened to images instead, which removes the original text for good at the cost of everything on those pages becoming a picture. Pages with no match are never touched either way.

Frequently asked questions
- Is my file uploaded to a server?
- No. The file is opened by JavaScript and WebAssembly running inside your own browser tab. It is never uploaded, there is no server-side processing and nothing is stored — closing the tab discards everything.
- Is the text really gone, or just covered?
- Really gone. That is what separates this from drawing a black rectangle with Annotate or cropping the page — both of those leave the content in the file, selectable by anyone who looks. Here the matched text is removed from the document itself.
- Which mode should I choose?
- Keep the rest as real text for almost everything: only the matches are removed and the document stays searchable and sharp. Turn it off if you want the strongest possible guarantee on the affected pages, accepting that those pages become images.
- It says there were too many matches on one page.
- Some were left out rather than silently half-done. Narrow the search — a pattern matching hundreds of times on a page usually means the term is too broad — and run it again.
- Should I check the result?
- Always. Search the output for the terms you redacted, and look at the pages. Redaction is the one operation on this site where a mistake is not recoverable once the document is sent.
