Autocertificazione
Italian law lets a citizen replace many certificates with a signed statement of their own: DPR 445/2000 distinguishes the sostitutiva di certificazione under article 46, which stands in for facts a public register already holds, and the sostitutiva dell'atto di notorietà under article 47, which covers facts no register keeps. Getting the wrong article is the usual reason a form comes back. This tool asks which one you need and produces the document with the right heading, the right clauses and the right declaration.
It carries fourteen ready-made statements for the situations that come up most, plus the privacy notice and the stamp-exemption clause these documents are supposed to include. It is Italian-specific by design and says so — the legal framework it implements does not exist elsewhere, so a self-declaration produced here has no standing in another country's administration.
How it works
- Choose article 46 or article 47 for the fact you are declaring.
- Pick one of the fourteen ready-made statements, or write your own.
- Fill in your personal details and the specifics of the declaration.
- Download, print, sign and attach a copy of your ID.
What people use it for
- Replacing a residency or family-status certificate for an administrative office.
- Declaring a fact that no public register holds, under article 47.
- Producing a correctly worded declaration without copying a template of uncertain provenance.
Frequently asked questions
- Is my file uploaded to a server?
- No. The file is opened by JavaScript and WebAssembly running inside your own browser tab. It is never uploaded, there is no server-side processing and nothing is stored — closing the tab discards everything.
- Article 46 or article 47 — which do I need?
- Article 46 for facts a public administration already records: date of birth, residency, family status, qualifications. Article 47 for everything else — facts of which you have direct knowledge but no register holds. If the office asked for an "atto di notorietà", that is article 47.
- Do I have to attach my ID?
- For a declaration under article 47 not signed in front of the official, yes: a photocopy of a valid identity document is part of what makes it valid. It is the omission that most often gets a declaration returned.
- Can I use this outside Italy?
- No. It implements DPR 445/2000, which is Italian law. Other countries have their own instruments, or none, and a document in this form carries no standing with them.
- Is a printed and signed declaration enough?
- For most counters, yes — print it, sign it by hand and attach the ID copy. If the office wants it digitally, sign the PDF with the Digital signature tool rather than pasting in a picture of your signature.
