Cropping changes what part of each page is visible. It is the fix for a scan with a black strip down one side, a page with margins so wide the text is lost in them, or a document that needs to lose a header band before being placed into something else. Drag the handles, or type the four insets in points when the measurement has to be exact, and every page is cropped to the same box.

The tool states the thing that matters most about it, and this article will repeat it: cropping hides content, it does not remove it. The material outside the visible box is still inside the file and can be recovered by anyone who changes the crop back. If your reason for cropping is that something should not be seen, this is the wrong tool — use Redact, which removes the content itself.

How it works

  1. Drop in a PDF.
  2. Drag the handles to set the visible area, or type the left, right, top and bottom insets in points.
  3. Check a page or two that the crop suits the whole document.
  4. Save the cropped PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The file is opened by JavaScript and WebAssembly running inside your own browser tab. It is never uploaded, there is no server-side processing and nothing is stored — closing the tab discards everything.
Is cropped-out content really gone?
No. It is hidden, not deleted — the data stays in the file and undoing the crop brings it back. Never crop to conceal something sensitive; use Redact, which removes the content permanently.
Why has the file not got smaller?
For the same reason: nothing was removed. Cropping sets a visible area, so the page content, images and all, is exactly as heavy as it was.
Can I crop each page differently?
Not here — one box is applied to every page. If the margins vary, Auto-trim margins measures each page's actual content and can either fit each one individually or find one box that suits them all.
My pages are different sizes and the crop suits none of them.
Run Normalize size first so every page is the same, then crop. A single box cannot fit an A4 and an A3 sensibly at the same time.
