A PDF can carry other files inside it. The format has an embedded-files table, and it is used more than most people realise: an electronic invoice ships its XML inside the human-readable PDF, an engineering drawing carries the CAD source, a scientific paper carries its dataset, and a signed document carries the signature's own artefacts. None of that is visible on the page.

This tool opens that table and lists what is actually in there, with names and sizes, so you can save the files out one at a time or take the lot as a ZIP. If a PDF you were told contains an attachment appears to have none, this is how you find out for certain rather than hunting through a reader's menus.

Frequently asked questions

Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The file is opened by JavaScript and WebAssembly running inside your own browser tab. It is never uploaded, there is no server-side processing and nothing is stored — closing the tab discards everything.
It says no embedded files were found.
Then the PDF genuinely has none. Attachments are a specific structure in the file; something merely printed or drawn on a page — a picture of a form, a screenshot of a spreadsheet — is page content, not an attachment. Use Extract images for pictures.
Is this the same as extracting the images?
No, and the difference matters. Embedded files are whole documents carried alongside the page. Images are graphics painted onto the page. A PDF can have either, both, or neither.
Can I add an attachment to a PDF?
Yes — the Attach file tool does the reverse operation, embedding a file into a PDF so it travels with the document.
Are the extracted files safe to open?
They are exactly the bytes that were inside the PDF, extracted in your browser and nothing more. Treat them with the same caution you would treat any attachment from that source: an embedded file is as trustworthy as whoever put it there.
