A watermark states the status of a document on the document itself: DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, a client name, a date. Because it is drawn into the page content rather than added as an annotation, it survives printing and cannot be switched off in the reader.

The useful settings are opacity and rotation. Too opaque and the text underneath becomes hard to read; too faint and a printed copy shows nothing. A diagonal mark at moderate opacity is the convention because it is legible without competing with the body text.

How it works

  1. Open the PDF and type the watermark text, or upload a logo image.
  2. Set position, rotation, size and opacity.
  3. Choose whether it applies to every page or a page range.
  4. Check the preview and download.

Frequently asked questions

Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The file is opened by JavaScript and WebAssembly running inside your own browser tab. It is never uploaded, there is no server-side processing and nothing is stored — closing the tab discards everything.
Can the watermark be removed afterwards?
Not easily, and not by toggling anything in a reader — it becomes part of the page content. That is the point, though a determined person with the right tools can always alter a PDF.
Can I use an image instead of text?
Yes. A PNG with transparency works best; opacity and scale are adjustable the same way as for text.
Can I watermark only some pages?
Yes, apply it to a page range instead of the whole document — useful when only the annexes need marking.
