Adding page numbers to a finished PDF is common when the document was assembled from several sources and the numbering in each part no longer makes sense. Numbers are drawn into the page content, so they print and stay put regardless of the reader.

The details that matter are where the numbering starts and where it sits. Legal and administrative filings usually want numbering that starts after the cover, and a margin position that survives stapling or hole-punching.

How it works

  1. Open the PDF.
  2. Choose the position — corner or centre, header or footer — and the format, such as "5" or "Page 5 of 32".
  3. Set the starting number and the first page that should carry one.
  4. Preview the placement and download.

Frequently asked questions

Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The file is opened by JavaScript and WebAssembly running inside your own browser tab. It is never uploaded, there is no server-side processing and nothing is stored — closing the tab discards everything.
Can I skip the cover page?
Yes. Set the first numbered page and the starting value independently, so the cover stays clean while page two can still be numbered 1 or 2 as you prefer.
The numbers overlap existing content.
Move the position or reduce the size. Documents with tight margins may need the number in the outer margin rather than centred in the footer.
